"Near the top of Chiapinni Street in the Bo-Kaap, we ate fried chicken and ‘slap’ chips seasoned with Rosie’s Salt. A little bit of Malaysia, a touch of Morocco and a wisp of Zanzibar - the ingredients sound like a Kaapse Goema liedjie (old Cape slave song). It tells an exotic tale of adventures in faraway lands: Salt, brown sugar, cinnamon, black pepper, coriander, ginger, cumin, white pepper, mint, rose, chilli and turmeric oil - seductive, enthralling and just a little bit dangerous...”
Excellent with fried or grilled game-fish - serve with a chilli, pineapple and tomato salsa with fresh coriander and a squeeze of lime.
Spiced with the flavours of the Cape, this blend is great with chicken, lamb, pork, potatoes, butternut, sweet potato, onions and carrots. Sprinkle a little before cooking and add a bit more at the table.
